New Brown Shoes
Nov 2nd, 2007 by Amy
I have a confession to make…
I have been knitting socks for nearly a year, and in that time I’ve finished seven and a half pairs of socks (only one Peaks n Valleys sock is finished). But this week was the first time I’ve worn my hand-knit socks out of the house!
This was not for a lack of desire to do so, but for a lack of appropriate shoes to wear with the socks. All of the shoes I had that were meant to be worn with socks didn’t quite fit when I wore them with hand-knit socks…the socks were a bit too thick and made the shoes feel too tight. So I just wore them around the house.
Last month a thread on Ravelry and posts by a few of my fellow knit-bloggers inspired me to go on a quest for a pair of “shoes to wear with hand-knit socks”. I also wanted to find something that was a balance between dressy and casual so that I could wear them with jeans on the weekends or with a skirts/nicer pants to work. I didn’t have much luck in brick-and-mortar stores, so I tried Zappos. There were so many shoes to choose from that a few times I would put something in my cart and think about it for a day or two before going back to order, only to find that my size had sold out in that period of time! I ended up ordering three pairs to choose from (yay for free shipping and free return shipping!) and of the three, I ended up keeping this pair of mary janes by Stonefly.
I’m quite happy with my purchase. I haven’t worn a pair of mary janes since I was about 6 years old, but I find these fun, cute, comfy, and versatile. I wore them on Wednesday with brown slacks and my Embossed Leaves socks, Thursday with textured tights and a corduroy skirt, and today with jeans and my Bellatrix socks.
I’m so pleased that my knit socks get to see the outside world (and vice versa) now!

cuuuuuuuuute!
i need to test out some black ones, maybe i’ll try your method.
Great choice! Super-cute shoes and gorgeous socks!
