On a Saturday

I had hoped that today would be the day that I would get caught with taking some photos of FOs. But instead we had to take the car to the dealership and ended up running a bunch of errands.
But I was able to do one knitting-related errand. Since it was (relatively) close to the car dealership, I stopped in at Ewenique Yarns to see if they had the needles I need to get the right gauge for the Tiffany mittens. I originally started with US 3 dpns (since I tend to need to go up from the size specified in the pattern), which made the mitten really big. Then I tried using two US 2 circulars (the ones I’ve been using for socks recently) which made the mitten too tight across the widest part of the hand. So I needed to find 3 mm (or US 2 1/2) needles.
Ewenique Yarns came through for me, and I came away with two 3 mm circulars, one in 16″ length and another in 20″ length. Maybe tonight I can rip back the work I have so far and give it another shot with these needles.

I love the colors of your yarn! How pretty!!
I’m always in awe of fairisle. I just can’t imagine that, one day, my wobbly knitting will turn into something like that.
[…] A while ago I started knitting the Tiffany Mittens for my sister. I had some issues with gauge and sizing, and once I had the first mitten finished I had some doubts about how well it would fit. I decided to hold off on knitting the second mitten until I could have my sister try the first one on to check the fit. It turns out that the fit is fine, so while I was in Ohio I started the second mitten. I wanted to finish the pair by the new year, but I ran out of the darker purple, and didn’t get a chance to buy more until yesterday (thank you Woolworks!) If I concentrate on this for the rest of the week, I should have it done and ready to mail out this weekend. I’m a bit ashamed to have a Christmas gift I started in October creep into January before being finished. But I am very pleased with how they look so far. […]
