FO - Tiffany Mittens
Jan 19th, 2008 by Amy
I have a bit of a backlog of finished projects to talk about. That almost never happens, and I’m excited to have so many things to talk about. Over a week ago I finished the Tiffany Mittens, last week I finished the Not Quite Straight Scarf, and last night I finished the Peaks n Valleys Socks. My WIP list was a little crazy for a while, and now its back down to the point that I feel OK with starting something new.
So, here are the long-awaited Tiffany Mittens…
Pattern: Tiffany Mittens from the Winter 2006 Knitty
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino - 1 ball each Teal, Dusty Lavender, & Lilac, 1.5 balls Grape
Needles: 3.0mm Addi Turbo Circulars
Started: October 2007
Completed: January 2008
I had multiple false-starts with this project. This was my first time doing stranded knitting, so there was a learning curve right there. As far as learning some tips for doing stranded knitting, I found the posts tagged color at let me explaiKnit very helpful for learning about the options for holding the yarn while doing stranded knitting, color dominance and how to decide which should be dominant, and the all-important weaving the unused strands.
In addition I used a bit heavier yarn than called for in the pattern, so I had to make several attempts at finding the right needle size to hit gauge. Then once I finished the first mitten, I was a bit worried about the size, so I held off on starting the second mitten until I saw my sister at Christmas so she could try it on. Once I knew the size was fine, the gauge was fine, and I had the technique down, knitting the second mitten went much faster than the first.
I’m very happy with the results. I said to my sister, between these mittens and the lace chuppah, it looks like I do all of my best knitting for her!
I still hope to do a stranded knitting project for myself before the weather warms up. I eventually want to knit Eunny Jang’s Anemoi Mittens for myself, but I might end up doing the Sheep and Wool Hat first (I already have yarn for both projects).

i love those mittens! the colors you chose are beautiful!
The look amazing, congrats on a great FO! Your picots turned out really well. I always have trouble with picots.
[…] really enjoy using this yarn (the yarn is the leftover teal from these mittens I knit for my sister) and because it is not only a hat, but a baby hat, it feels like the fastest […]
